Some Helpful Advice For Weaning Your Baby

some-helpful-advice-for-weaning-your-baby

Weaning is the process of slowly stopping breastfeeding your baby. There is simply no optimum age for weaning. It will always depend on your situation and your baby.

Depending on your baby’s age when you decide to wean, you may decide to graduate from breastfeeding to a bottle or straight to a cup. The Raising Children Network advises that babies of as few as seven to eight months can begin drinking from a cup. Your baby’s age will also determine the type of formula or milk you choose, but babies shouldn’t get cow’s milk until after at least one year.

Overall, don’t try to rush the process of weaning. Your body and baby both need time to adjust to the new routine. Trying to stop breastfeeding too quickly can lead to some discomfort as your breasts are still filling with milk. By expressing small amounts of milk at a time, you can prevent your breasts filling up and becoming even sorer. Making the weaning process even more gradual can prevent this as well. Perhaps go from feeding once a day to feeding once every few days. Remember that it’s about finding the right process for both you and your baby.

What has your experience been weaning your baby? How long did it take?
