Your Baby’s Teething Guide |
|
Baby’s first teeth appear anywhere between fourteen weeks and fourteen months of age. However, most babies first teeth do emerge in the set sequence illustrated on the right but remember it is not unusual for the teeth to appear out of sequence.
You might find your baby’s usual routine is disturbed by the emergence of teeth – we all know how awful any tooth related pain can so be sensitive to your baby’s needs through this sometime testy period. If you have any concerns about your baby’s health at these times please don’t hesitate to see your family doctor or baby health clinic
When should I start brushing my baby's teeth?
As soon as they appear! Use a soft, small toothbrush slightly dampened with water and very gently brush the tooth or teeth, back and front. Alternatively use a very clean, damp face washer and gently rub the tooth’s surface both back and front.
You might find your baby is more co-operative with this method. Once the baby starts to chew foods it is a good idea to apply a tiny amount of toothpaste – good plant gel based pastes are available at your chemist or health food stores.
You might try keeping a pair of our Toothiepegs in the fridge as the coldness can bring your baby’s tender gums extra relief during the teething months. Recommended from 6 months
